A community centre in south Wimbledon was transformed into a secure psychiatric unit when film crews took to Merton for the latest Sunday night BBC drama.
Locations around south London were used for Undercover, the Peter Moffat’s gripping serial about a top lawyer (Sophie Okonedo) who was unaware that her husband (Adrian Lester) was an undercover policeman who had been spying on her for 20 years.
Among the filming spots was a house in Wandle Bank, Colliers Wood, and All Saints Community Centre, which was transformed for the series into a psychiatric unit.
The community centre was given a donation by way of a thank-you, which will be used to fund a day out for its visitors.
Driving scenes were shot in Wimbledon Road, Plough Lane, Haydons Road, Merton High Street, Kingston High Road, Dorset Road, Morden Road, Morden Hall Park car park, St Helier Avenue and Rose Hill roundabout.
FilmFixer manages the film office on behalf of Merton Council. The company’s director Karen Everett said: “It’s significant that Undercover, with a very complex locations brief, made really good use of services in Merton, as well as Haringey and Kingston, outside the capital’s centre.
“As filming increases, it’s important to decant as much as possible to the outer boroughs, to take the pressure off the centre. This will be key to keeping filming sustainable.”
