Some of the finest dance experts from around the UK and overseas will perform at a festival alongside schools and community groups in south west London next month.

The fourth Ignition Dance Festival takes place over July 2 and 3 at the Rose Theatre, Kingston, and the Lyric, Hammersmith.

On the Saturday, four of the country’s best choreographers will showcase their work as well as six choreographers who were selected after a nationwide search to take part and who also receive bursaries, mentoring and support.

On the Sunday, community groups and schools will take part including a curtain-raiser from Norbiton’s Tamil Elders and Kingston’s Staywell Services adults, who are all aged 65 and over and have been working with choreographer Simona Scotto.

The festival is organised by DanceWest, whose founder Rosie Whitney-Fish said: “Last year we worked with 45 professional dance artists and reached over 2,000 people. We are building on this success in 2016 by providing funded opportunities for choreographers to create new work, growing audiences and giving a stage for local groups to perform as well."
