House DJ trio Future Polar Bears have rocked nightclubs and festivals all over the world since forming in 2010.
We caught up with the boys – Luke Hayes, Rhys Buckley and Fran Cosgrave – ahead of their gig at Gigalum in Clapham on September 18.
You’ve played all over the world, but what makes London special?
London always has a special place in our heart as it was one of the first major cities we played at. The city’s clubbing heritage is second-to-none and we always look forward to playing there. The enthusiasm and musical knowledge is always amazing, and we can’t wait to come back.
Other than London, where is the most amazing place to DJ?
We’re lucky enough to travel the world and play in some amazing countries, but we love playing in Singapore. The club we play at is incredible (Zouk) and the food is amazing. It’s just a vibrant city and we love spending time there!
What is the lifestyle of a house DJ like?
Its great fun, we love it but it’s definitely not as glamorous as everybody thinks. Its long hours with very little sleep so you have to prepare yourself for the tours and limit the partying you do. With all that said, we are very fortunate to visit some of the most amazing places in the world and we wouldn’t swap it for anything.
What Futuristic Polar Bears achievement are you most proud of?
We have two milestones that we’re particularly proud of: Our first Beatport number 1 was an incredible achievement from the whole team and that was very special for us. It was also a great achievement to reach our first 1million streams on Spotify with our latest track Café Del Mar. Again it was a team effort that everyone worked hard for.
What are the ingredients of a great night out?
Great friends, great alcohol and great music. These three ingredients will give you a good time no matter where you are.
What’s on the horizon for Futuristic Polar Bears?
We’ve got some amazing single releases and remixes coming out which we’re really excited about. I wish we could say more but you’ll all find out pretty soon.
