A well-loved children’s book by Quentin Blake has been transformed for the stage and is coming to some unlikely venues in south London.
Founded by mums Katie Russell and Rachael Richards, Ga Ga Theatre is following its sell-out first season with a multi-sensory adaptation of Mrs Armitage and the Big Wave.
Ideal for children aged under eight and free for under twos, it is about the surfing Mrs Armitage, her custom-built board, her dog Breakspear and the hunt for a big wave.
Rather than theatres, the show is being hosted at venues including Kingston Grammar School (October 20), Clapham Picture House (October 7, 11, 14, 25 and 28), and Brixton Ritzy (October 26). The shows combine live theatre, original music and projections on the big screen.
Kate Williams, editor of Ga Ga Theatre’s media partner Mumsnet, said: “Lots of children really love the excitement and energy of live theatre, but finding a well-pitched, innovative production in an easily accessible venue - not to mention ticket prices that don't require a remortgage - can defeat all but the most culturally dedicated parents.
“We are pleased to be part of Ga Ga Theatre’s 2016 autumn season and look forward to hearing what Mumsnet users think about Mrs Armitage and the Big Wave.”
