Golf enthusiast Marion Ludlam played in the inaugural Jubilee Foursomes at Purley Downs 40 years ago and since then has had her eye on the champion’s plate.
Much to her displeasure, she had never taken the title.
That was until this year when the 80-year-old finally achieved that goal.
Along with her son Stephen Ludlam, the pair took the championship over some much younger competition.
The field of 64 could only stand and applaud as the mother and son combination received their prize from ladies’ captain Frances Wood and men’s captain Keith Pitts.
Marion, who is a past lady captain at the club herself, was overjoyed to finally walk away victorious.
“Finally after 40 years of trying and, with some near misses, Stephen and I have managed to win the trophy,” she said.
“I’m delighted.”
