Skipper Carl Fletcher has won the race to wear the Eagles' number seven shirt this season.
Clinton Morrison revealed to the Croydon Guardian that the ex-West Ham midfielder and Paul Ifill were battling over the number after it was vacated by Jobi McAnuff.
After claiming the number 10 shirt, Morrison said the duo were "arguing" over who should have it, but it seems Fletcher has been given the nod, with Ifill settling for the number 11 shirt no longer wanted by Morrison.
The Republic of Ireland hitman is hoping his new number will see him return to similar goalscoring form he showed during his first spell at Selhurst Park.
"Number 10 is what I always wore for Palace and, hopefully, this year it will bring me some luck," said Morrison.
"I asked the gaffer before we went away for the summer and he said yes and gave it to me."
New signings Tony Craig and Jeff Hughes have been handed the number three and 24 shirts respectively.
