Sutton United has teamed up with a home care provider to host its first Sporting Memories cafe.

Tony Ward, from Home Instead Senior Care, has linked up with the National League high fliers for the cafe where people who are living with the affects of short term memory loss and their relatives can have a break from their routine and enjoy a cup of tea, biscuits, cake and good company while reminiscing about sport.

Fully qualified staff will be on hand at the free event at Sutton United's stadium in Gander Green Lane from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Wednesday, March 14. There is also level access to the stadium and a large car park.

Mr Ward said: "I have been involved in playing and watching sport locally all my life and have recently been acutely aware that several of my friends and former team mates have struggled, along with their families and friends, to cope with the effects of short term memory loss and the difficulties it causes.

"I want to give people in this position the opportunity to remember their own sporting activities and achievements in a friendly, comfortable, social environment.

"Hopefully it will become something to look forward to in their routine and help trigger some forgotten memories of their own former glories in sport.”
