A Wallington kebab takeaway has been named the best in London.

Wallington Express, in Stafford Road, was crowned the winner at the sixth British Kebab Awards at Westminster Park Plaza Hotel on March 12.

Sponsored by Just Eat, they were selected after a judging panel’s verdict.

Owner Abdullah Okuyucu, 53, said: “I was over the moon, honestly, when I heard that I won. Everyone was coming to congratulate us so that was very good.

“At the moment, I’m so excited.

“I really would like to take this opportunity to thank our friends, family and workers for this support. We could not have done this without them at all. I've never, ever had beautiful customers like in Wallington.

“I think it takes a great team to make a great kebab, but it also takes great customers to make a special takeaway restaurant in Wallington.”

Mr Okuyucu, who runs Wallington Express alongside Sukru Oztekin, 48, said there are further plans to improve the shop following the news.

He has been in Wallington for 15 years and in the industry for almost three decades, with Wallington Express having seen a 20 percent increase in customers following the announcement.

He added: “We look forward to new faces in our shop and what the future holds for Wallington Express.”

Wallington Express was named the best takeaway in London alongside Greek on the Street in Croydon.
