The head of a Cheam secondary school says some pupils who were filmed being involved in an altercation that was published online have been reprimanded.
An incident broke in a street yards away from the school’s premises, in Chatsworth Road, at around midday on June 8 following a GCSE exam.
An 11-second clip posted on Facebook, viewed more than 18,000 times, shows several young people surrounding two others on the ground before one of them is kicked in the head.
This week, Cheam High School headteacher Pete Naudi said: “There was an incident off site on Friday which occurred between a group of Year 11 students as they were leaving the area of the school at the end of a GCSE examination.
“The incident was very unpleasant and we are treating it very seriously. The small number of students involved have let themselves, their year group and the school down and are being dealt with in accordance with our behaviour policy.”
Police were also called shortly after 12 noon that day to a “disturbance” in Chatsworth Road.
A spokesman for the force said officers attended the location where several youths had gathered.
However, no injuries were reported to the force, no medical treatment was required, and no arrests have been made.
The clip, which has been shared almost 700 times, is said to only feature a fraction of the entire episode itself.
While other videos have also been published of the same incident, Sutton Guardian has decided not to republish the video.
However, after being asked whether bullying and anti-social behaviour are issues at the school, Mr Naudi denied this.
In a further statement, he added: “The school has a very strong stance on anything related to violence, bullying or harassment and our behaviour policy indicates that exclusion from school would be the appropriate response.
“These procedures have been followed and parents have been informed."
A letter was also sent by Cheam High School to parents earlier this week in connection with the incident.
