Peter Taylor has told Clinton Morrison to look at the example set by Dougie Freedman and Danny Butterfield after the striker was dropped from the Crystal Palace squad.
The Republic of Ireland international started the Norwich City game on the bench, and did not even feature in the 16 for the clashes against Coventry City and Sheffield United, fuelling rumours of a rift.
But Taylor insists the 28-year-old is still very much a part of his plans and has urged the livewire to follow in the footsteps of Freedman and Butterfield, who have both spent time on the sidelines this season.
Taylor said: "Some people speak about Clinton like he is different to another squad player. I don't see it like that - I just pick an honest team.
"Dougie was left out against Charlton and that gave him a kick up the backside because, since that day, he has been outstanding.
"Danny probably wanted to punch my lights out because he wasn't playing but he gets on with it, gets an opportunity and takes it.
"If a manager leaves you out, you don't just look at the manager; you look at yourself."
