Major and “comprehensive” redevelopment plans to construct three buildings that provide more than 20,000 sqm of industrial floor space in north Beddington have been submitted.
Prologis UK want to redevelop the proposed area, which altogether spans across 18 acres of land, in Beddington Lane and near Mile Road.
The planning application has been split into two – with the first 4.2 hectares near to the Viridor incinerator earmarked for the delivery of 20,746 sqm of new “flexible” industrial floor space.
Meanwhile, the other 3.2 hectares would be restored before it’s used to become a new ecology reserve.
Prologis UK want to construct three buildings that comprise of six units, varying in size, which would be for business use and storage or distribution.
Meanwhile the restoration of land formerly used for sludge beds would be used to provide a new ecology reserve north of Mile Road.
This would include “a series of extensive new species-rich habitats”, including wetlands, reed beds, wildflower grassland, trees and scrub, “in an area that currently has very little ecological interest”.
The planning statement’s conclusion reads: “The development will deliver a significant amount of new employment floor space and new employment opportunities, approximately 285 jobs, for the local community.
“The high quality landscape proposals, and the provision of a new offsite ecology reserve, will result in a net improvement in biodiversity and will likely increase the ecological value and benefits of the site and local area in terms of contribution to local biodiversity.”
Sutton Council validated the plans on November 13, however, it’s not known as of yet when a decision will be made.
