Footage has emerged online of a Sutton train station worker appearing to throw dirty water around a homeless man while he laid on the floor.
Southern Rail said it is investigating after the staff member is recorded tipping a bucket full of water around the man outside the station on Sunday (February 24) afternoon.
It’s unclear what was being said between the man and the workers but the person filming the footage, who wishes to remain anonymous, is told to stop recording.
One of them says, “Why are you filming it? You don’t need to film it”, before repeatedly saying, “There’s no story”.
The person who filmed it, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “I had been there for about 10 minutes when they came out and started throwing dirty soapy water on him and pushing him with a mop.
“During those 10 minutes he was sleeping and doing nothing to anyone.”
Since being published online the video clip has been shared on Facebook 5,226 at the time of publishing.
Social media users also took to Twitter to express their concerns over the incident.
One person said: “Jesus. That is appalling.”
Another commented: “That’s seriously horrific to see.”
Southern also commented on a Twitter thread after having become aware of the footage.
It reads: “Please be assured that this video is currently being investigated by higher management and the appropriate action will be taken.
“I can only apologise for this in the meantime.”
Southern has since been approached for further comment.
