A teenager who fell on the tracks at Worcester Park station will be able to walk again despite a badly injured foot, her family has confirmed.
Lauren Cleere came off life support during the weekend and is now trying to talk, to the tremendous relief of her relatives.
The 15-year-old was reportedly clipped by a train as she fell between the carriages a fortnight ago. She suffered massive blood loss and needed her spleen removed.
A family member said: "She broke her back, pelvis and hip and cracked her ribs. She will be able to walk and she can move her legs, but she's still in a lot of pain and still feels ill from the drugs.
"She will probably have to stay in hospital for the next couple of months, and needs physio.
"But this is best news we've ever heard. They had to resuscitate her three times and we didn't know if she'd pull through. We're very lucky to still have Lauren."
He added that, contrary to rumours, Lauren did not lose her foot.
Her family has spent much of the past two weeks anxiously waiting at Lauren's bedside at St George's Hospital in Tooting.
They have been overwhelmed by the support they have received.
Lauren's relative urged people to donate blood to help those in a similar situation.
He said: "People keep asking what they can do. Lauren lost six and a half pints and had to have two blood transfusions. If it weren't for the blood, she wouldn't be alive."
The family member said Lauren was not running at the time of her fall.
A spokesman for the hospital said Lauren was out of intensive care and in a stable condition.
