A McDonald’s wants to open a new branch in the Crystal Palace triangle.
The fast food chain has applied to Croydon Council to open a new restaurant in Westow Street.
If successful it will open in the former Living Water Satisfies (LWS) cafe next to Haynes Lane.
The social enterprise cafe which used all its profits to support women leaving refuge, closed last summer blaming high rental rates.
But McDonald’s would not elaborate on plans further with a spokesman only saying: “We are currently in the process of a planning application in South London and hope to be able to announce something after all the due process has been followed.”
What are in the plans?
The applicant, McDonald’s Restaurants LTD, wants to install new signs on the front of the building.
And it looks like it will be a takeaway restaurant rather than one you can eat in.
Drawings show that the front would have the famous yellow golden arches ‘m’ followed by the word ‘to go’.
And at the back there would be a staff entrance.
A drawing of the layout inside shows a small area at the front with three electronic screens to order as well as a counter.
So far the application has attracted five public comments, three objections, one neutral and one supporting comment.
A decision is expected to be made by August 1.
If it is successful it won’t be the first time there has been a McDonald’s in the trendy Triangle.
One in Westow Hill closed down back in 2007.
