A 51-year-old man from Norbury has been charged with a series of offences related to a gun found at his home earlier this week.
In a statement posted online by the Metropolitan Police this afternoon (Thursday, January 28) it was announced that Darren Lewis, 51, of Norbury Avenue had been charged after officers from the Met's Specialist Crime Command raided his house on Tuesday, January 26.
He appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court earlier today, and now faces charges of:
- Possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life
- Two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited
- Possession of ammunition without certificate
- Two counts of possession of a section 5 firearm
- Possession of cannabis
As the Croydon Guardian reported previously, the Met's Detective Inspector Adam Seton, said after the arrest of Lewis that the pandemic would not stop them pursuing gun crime: "The Coronavirus pandemic has reduced violent crime significantly, but it has not stopped our tenacious officers from going out and protecting the public from those who seek to cause harm.
"We will continue to pursue anyone involved in firearms offences.
"No global pandemic will stop Met officers from seizing weapons, guns and protecting Londoners."
