Independent mayoral candidate Winston McKenzie came to Croydon to unveil his policies on Tuesday.
He also put his musical talent to the test by performing a rap outlining his political vision for London.
The brother of former world boxing champion Duke McKenzie says people are disillusioned with the current mayor Ken Livingstone.
And he insists Tory candidate Boris Johnson does not have enough in common with ordinary people in the capital.
Mr McKenzie said: "Ken, Boris, watch out. None of you can match me. I'm the best man for the job. I'm carrying the message of the people.
"Somehow, I'll make my mark before I die on this earth."
Backing his campaign to become London's first black mayor, is Marianne Bowness, former wife of Conservative Lord Peter Bowness.
Winston McKenzie had his own success as an amateur boxer and won international honours for England.
