Construction is underway for a new Lidl set for Sutton High Street, following permission granted by Sutton Council.
Lidl is working with construction firm STS for the fit-out phase of the new store which will create around 40 new jobs when opened.
The works are expected to take up to five months, with a view to opening the store in late summer.
The new store with 1,675m² sales area, will also feature facilities including an in-store bakery and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.
It forms part of the company’s £1.3bn investment plans across Great Britain in 2021 and 2022.
Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Henry Neel, said: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to commence our store fit out programme.
"We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”
