A man has died after collapsing on a street in Sutton this morning.
Emergency services were called to Wellesley Road shortly after 6 am this morning ( May 10).
Despite paramedics best efforts, the 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man who works in an adjacent office building, who asked not to be named, said he was first aware of the incident when traffic started to build up at around 7 am.
"There were a couple of ambulances and a paramedic car, and about four police cars," he said.
"They had pulled a sheet over someone, but I have no idea what it was."
Sutton Guardian contacted both Met Police and the London Ambulance Service to establish what had happened.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 06:23 hrs after a man was found collapsed in Wellesley Road, Sutton.
"Officers attended along with colleagues from the London Ambulance Service.
"Despite providing first aid at the scene the 48-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Enquiries to inform his next of kin are continuing.
"Road closures were put in place at the scene. An investigation to establish the circumstances continues."
A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service confirmed that they sent an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic practitioner, two medics in response cars and an ambulance crew.
"We were called at 6:06am today to reports of an incident on Wellesley Road, Sutton," the spokesperson said.
"We sent a number of resources to the scene.
"Sadly, despite the efforts of medics, a man died at the scene."
