A video shows Sutton United celebrating as they claimed the National League title on Sunday afternoon (May 23).

Sutton United will play in the Football League for the first time in their 123 year history next season after they won 3-0 over Hartlepool on the weekend.

Players could be seen celebrating their triumph after the historic moment they were promoted to Sky Bet League Two.

Robert Milson, Louis John and Isaac Olaofe at Gander Green Lane sent Sutton up with a commanding victory over their promotion rivals.

In his first managerial job, Matt Gray guided the team to the Football League.

He told BT Sport: "Words can't describe how I'm feeling right now.

"Every single person at this club deserves where we're going."

The news has been highly applauded on social media with football fans, commentators and Sutton residents congratulating the team.

Louis John said it was a feeling he could not describe while David Ajiboye said it would be a moment he will cherish forever.

Sports commentator Adam Summerton said on Twitter: "There are so many people at @suttonunited that I’m happy for, perhaps the Chairman Bruce Elliott most of all - decades of dedication & perseverance have paid off - a club that’s always so friendly & welcoming. One of the greatest achievements in @TheVanaramaNL history."

Club Chairman Bruce Elliott told SUFCTV, on Sunday: "I think we are all still pinching ourselves to the fact we have done it and we are champions of a league that is traditionally tough to get out of.

"We are surrounded by ex-football league clubs and so it’s an unbelievable achievement for Matt and the players and it's just been a little bit of a shame that such an unbelievable season on the pitch has not had supporters in, but it was nice to have them back in today."
