Over 60 firefighters are tackling a massive flat fire in Croydon this morning, rescuing one man from the blaze.

London Fire Brigade said the fire has "produced a significant amount of smoke which is very visible to the surrounding area"

The fire started inside some flats on Sydenham Road in Croydon at around 11:23pm last night, June 16, with eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters called to the scene.

Half of the first floor and half of the roof of a terraced house converted into flats were alight, and with smoke pouring out into the sky, LFB took 23 calls to the blaze.

In dramatic footage posted on to social media, a crowd of fire crews and an ambulance can be seen outside the home as firefighters tackle the inferno.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "The fire produced a significant amount of smoke which was very visible in the surrounding area.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one man from a flat on the ground floor of the building.

"Firefighters are expected to remain on scene throughout the night."

The fire was under control just after 1am, although fire crews remained on the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
