A man was hospitalised after he was stabbed during a reported burglary in Surbiton yesterday (Tuesday, June 29).
Social media users reported a heavy emergency services presence on several roads between Surbiton and Tolworth on Tuesday morning after the incident.
It later emerged that a man had been stabbed amid a burglary at an address on River Court in Portsmouth Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Responding to a request for comment from the Surrey Comet, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police, who responded to the incident, said:
"Police were called at approximately 02:00hrs on Tuesday 29 June to an address in River Court, Portsmouth Road, Surbiton after a report of a burglary.
"Officers attended the scene, along with colleagues from the London Ambulance Service ,and a 53-year-old male was treated for a stab wound to his lower arm.
"He was later taken to hospital. His condition is not life threatening."
Police added that they had made an arrest in connection to the stabbing as they appealed to the public for information about what happened:
"A crime scene was put in place. A 28-year-old man was later arrested. Enquiries continue.
"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or Tweet MetCC quoting CAD 591/29 June. Alternatively, to remain 100% anonymous call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111," the Met said.
