Beloved mascots from some of the most iconic sports teams in the region will race each other at Epsom Downs Racecourse this bank holiday Monday (August 30).
The race will take place on Epsom Family Fun Day being hosted on site on Monday, and was convened in memory of two people who raised thousands for charity organizing similar events for various charities.
AFC Wimbledon's mascot Haydon the Womble is officially calling the race together in memory of Geoff and Jenny Smith, and Denys Hutson, who staged mascot races across the country and supported a wealth of good causes in the process, chiefly The Children's Trust Tadworth.
"They brought so much fun to so many and so many mascots have made lifetime friendships thanks to them, and they are missed terribly by the mascot family," Dean Parsons, the man behind Haydon the Womble, said.
"We have mascots from QPR, Surrey Police, AFC Wimbledon, Sutton United, Swindon Town, Horsham and even mascots from as far as Bamber Bridge and Chorley coming to take part in the first mascot race in almost 2 years!" He added.
The likely hilarious mascot race will be one of a host of events and activities on offer on the day that is free for children and starts from midday on Monday.
