A woman from Carshalton has sadly died after a car she was riding in hit a tree in Crawley Down in Sussex.
According to Sussex Police who are now investigating, the crash happened on Snow Hill (the A264) yesterday evening (Wednesday, September 8).
Around 8.50pm, emergency responders were called to the scene of what was described as a "single vehicle collision" close to the Duke's Head Roundabout.
On arrival, they found a grey Smart car that had left the road and crashed into a nearby tree.
"A woman aged 23 from Carshalton, London, who was a front seat passenger, died at the scene," a police statement read.
"The driver, a 29-year-old man from Battersea, London, was taken to St George’s Hospital in London with life-threatening injuries.
"A man aged 28, who was a passenger in the back seat, suffered multiple fractures and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton," the statement continued.
Their families and next of kin have since been informed, while road closures are in place in the area while police stay at the scene to investigate further.
Sussex Police are meanwhile appealing for anyone who saw the vehicle or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area contact them by emailing: collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk , and quote Operation Thorndon.
South East Coast Ambulance Service were contacted for comment.
