Ken Livingstone has made his first election promise - free round-the-clock public transport for over 60s.

Mr Livingstone says if re-elected as London Mayor in May, he would remove the time limits on the Freedom Pass.

Freedom Pass holders are currently allowed to travel for free on public transport only after 9am.

Mr Livingstone said the changes would come into effect within 12 months of the election.

He said the change would make it easier for pensioners and retired people to get to early appointments.

The extra travel is expected to cost Transport for London £20million a year, but Mr Livingstone pledged there would be no fare rise to cover it.
