South Croydon is now home to a brand new Sainsbury's Local store.
The convenience store in Brighton Road has been transformed from a vacant unit to a fully fitted-out Sainsbury's Local in just five weeks.
The store is 2,640 square foot and will serve customers from 7am to 11pm seven days a week.
It offers a selection of fresh food, fruit and vegetables as well as branded and own-brand groceries, frozen food and household products.
Fresh bread and pastries will be baked every day in the store bakery and customers can also choose to pick up a coffee from a self-service Costa coffee machine.
Sainsbury's plans for the store to "provide a boost to the local economy whilst enhancing retail choice and supporting new jobs".
The store is situated opposite the grounds of Whitgift House and Whitgift school.
There are six parking spaces to the side of the store for the added convenience of customers who may be passing through the area by car.
The Brighton Road team, which is made up of 22 colleagues, will participate in the local community as well as supporting Sainsbury’s nationwide charity partners and volunteering programmes, including The Royal British Legion as it celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
Charities that Sainsbury’s has recently supported locally include Shrublands Trust Croydon and Evolve Housing and Support.
Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director, said: “We have a proud history of serving the community in South Croydon and I’m delighted we’re now able to offer even more customers in the area the chance to enjoy Sainsbury’s renowned quality products and service at their convenience.”
John Corps, Croydon Brighton Road Local Store Manager, said: “We’re very pleased with our new store and everything it has to offer and we’re sure our new customers will be too. Born and raised in Croydon myself, I’m really looking forward to making a difference in my local community as we help customers prepare for Christmas and other festivities at this busy time of year.”
