A dog mum in Croydon is fundraising for her chihuahua to receive eye surgery after being told he has cataracts and may lose his sight.
Lisa Wraight, 44, decided to start the fundraiser after her five-year-old Chihuahua, Rolo, was diagnosed with cataracts.
Lisa says the treatment Rolo needs will cost £10,000 – including surgery on both eyes, consultations, vet visits and everything in between.
Lisa says she has “exhausted every option” to pay for the surgery and is now reaching out to anyone who is kind enough to help Rolo.
Rolo, who is currently blind in one eye, is described to be “calm, cool and confident.”
Lisa sadly lost all of her belongings, including Rolo’s paperwork, in the Purley Way storage unit fire that took place in 2019.
She says he is “all she has in life” and wants “nothing more” than to save his sight.
Lisa said: “Rolo seemed fine in himself until around six months ago when I saw his eye was clouding over.
“I took him to the vets, and they told me he has cataract and is near on blind in one eye.
“I originally took Rolo to the vets for a different health reason, but I wanted them to check his eyes as well.
“As Rolo was diagnosed with cataracts at such a young age, the vets thought it may have been caused by diabetes.
“But the blood tests found that he doesn’t have diabetes, so the cataracts are most likely hereditary.
“I was shocked to hear he already has a cataract in one eye– he can only see light and dark out of it.
“The vets told me the other eye is the beginning of cataract which means he’ll likely be blind in both eyes if it’s not treated.”
Lisa told Your Local Guardian that Rolo can’t recognise movements out of one of his eyes but says his “good” eye is currently okay.
She says there is a “time restraint” for Rolo to receive treatment as the cataracts worsens if it’s left untreated.
Lisa added: “The vets didn't give me an exact time because it’s hard to tell, but I've got a decent number of months to raise the money.
“The £10,000 covers surgery on both eyes, as well as referrals, vet visits and everything he needs.
“There are options to go ahead with treatment on just one eye if I can’t raise enough, but I will not stop fighting.”
Lisa, who has an “amazing” relationship with her beloved pet, says she is looking at “every option” to raise enough money for Rolo’s treatment and is appealing to anyone who can help towards the GoFundMe page.
She added: “Rolo is so different for a chihuahua – he’s not yappy, and only makes loud noises if he hears a noise and warns me when we’re indoors.
“He’s such a relaxed, friendly, loving dog who loves to play and look out of windows.
“He’s my world and I'll never give up doing what I can for him.”
