The latest block of flats in a £350 million project near East Croydon station is well under way.
The new development, known as Crescent Gardens, will be made up of 118 flats.
Homes in the nine-storey building in Cherry Orchard Road will be offered as affordable rent and shared ownership properties, through Latimer, part of Clarion Housing Group.
It is expected to be finished in 2023 but a topping out ceremony was held at the building last week, marking the moment the highest point of the block was reached.
The new building is part of the Morello II project started in 2020 and made up of 456 flats across three buildings.
The other part of the scheme is the Morello estate which has 338 flats across two 25-storey towers.
The development also includes 18,000 sq ft for shops and a new public space and link bridge to East Croydon train station.
It follows the £100m Morello I project which saw 300 flats built in Cherry Orchard Road. A two-bedroom leasehold flat in this development costs £415,000.
Victoria Finch, sales director at Latimer Homes said: “We are proud to be creating this fabulous collection of affordable apartments in the centre of Croydon. It is testament to the hard work and great partnership of everyone involved in the project that we have reached this topping out milestone and we look forward to launching the shared ownership homes soon.”
The flats are not currently on the market and their prices are yet to be revealed.
Craig Marks, chief executive of Menta said: “Crescent Gardens is an important piece of the jigsaw that is the regeneration of East Croydon, making a significant contribution to meeting the needs for affordable housing in the borough.
“The multimillion-pound upgrade of East Croydon station also means this is a location where connectivity is second to none, so residents of Crescent Gardens will be able to travel into central London in less than 20 minutes.”
