Officers spotted two known drug users in the area who appeared to be waiting for someone.
Officers then pulled over a car on nearby Waterloo Road and identified Hamilton as the driver.
Police say they had to force entry into the car and detain Hamilton as he refused to exit the vehicle.
Two phones were recovered from the car alongside a Kinder Egg containing drugs, which officers say Hamilton had tried to conceal.
