IT WAS a memorable win for Sutton United on Tuesday night as they beat Wigan United to reach the Papa John’s Trophy final at Wembley Stadium.
Sutton were victorious over the League One side in the semi-finals, defeating the Latics on penalties after it ended 1-1 within 90 minutes at Wigan.
Sutton’s Will Randall scored the opening goal of the night with a calm finish, putting his side 1-0 ahead in the 29th minute.
James McClean drew Wigan level with a thunderbolt finish from a tight angle beat Dean Bouzanis at his near post.
Bouzanis saved twice in the shootout and also scored from the spot as Sutton won 7-6 after 120 minutes.
Rotherham United also beat newly promoted Hartlepool side after another penalty shootout finishing 5-4 on Wednesday night reaching the final with Sutton.
The south London side will now play Rotherham at the Wembley final on April 3 as general tickets are on sale now.
Sutton fans will be given an initial allocation of 14,856 tickets for the East End of Wembley Stadium to attend the final.
