An estimated one in 13 people tested positive for Covid in Sutton at the end of last week, according to new statistics.

This means the highest infection rate recorded in south London was in Sutton with one in 13 people (7.48 per cent) testing positive for the virus.

It comes after the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the latest estimates of Covid prevalence in local authority areas across the UK.

All figures are calculated as an average over the seven days to March 12, 2022 and refer to infections among people in private households.

The estimates are based on sample sizes that are smaller than those used for the national and regional figures.

This means there is more uncertainty around the figures and caution should be taken when interpreting or ranking them, according to ONS.

Sutton: One in 13 people (7.48 per cent)

Lambeth: One in 14 people (7.11 per cent)

Southwark: One in 15 people (6.56 per cent)

Croydon: One in 20 people (5.09 per cent)

Barnet recorded the lowest in London with one in 25 people (4.21 per cent) testing positive for the virus in the week leading up to March 12.

Elsewhere in England, the highest Covid infection rate in north east England was recorded in Newcastle upon Tyne with one in 18 people testing positive for the virus.
