The money raised from this year's Purley Swimathon is expected to take the total brought in by the event since it started twenty years ago past the £300,000 mark.
The first of two nights on which the event is taking place this month at Purley Pool was on Saturday, with 30 teams taking to the water to see how many lengths they could do.
More than £13,400 has already been brought in by those that took part at the weekend, with that figure expected to rise as they still await sponsorship money.
The second night is taking place tomorrow, Thursday, with 60 per cent of the money raised going to the team's chosen charity, and the other 40 to charities chosen by the organiser, Purley Rotary Club.
