Sutton drivers will face disruption for more than two months as a Carshalton road is closed for vital waterworks repairs.
It will see closures and temporary traffic lights in place.
Starting on June 13, work will affect the area around Middleton Road near Poulter Park.
The works are likely to cause delays to other local roads as drivers fund alternative routes.
The disruption will be so South East Water (SES) can lay 430 metres of new pipes under Middleton Road.
The company said this will: “help protect supplies now and in the future.”
They added: ” This new water main will help us keep your taps running should anything happen to the older main.
"It’s part of a larger plan to create a more resilient network.”
Work will start near the junction of Watermead Lane working its way down to Shrewsbury Road.
While in Middleton Road there will be two-way traffic lights in place.
Expect further delays when work reaches the junctions with Maynooth Gardens and Budge Lane where four-way traffic lights will be put in place.
SES has assured that Middleton Road will remain open during the work but the junctions of Peterborough Road and Shrewsbury Road be closed at different times.
Work is expected to take place between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
SES has not listed an end date for the work but MP for Carshalton and Wallington, Elliot Colburn, tweeted that work will not be completed until the end of August.
He said: “SES Water have notified me of their plans to start laying a new water main in Middleton Road.
"This work will commence on Monday, June 13 and continue until the end of August.
“The majority of Middleton Road will remain open, with a temporary two-way traffic light system in place throughout the works.
"The junctions on the road will be closed intermittently as the teams progress down the road.”
