Chipstead boss Nick English rued missed chances after his side came close to upsetting title-chasing Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday, writes Simon Fitzjohn.
Despite bossing the first half, the Chips slipped to a 1-0 defeat.
And English insisted his team should feel hard done by.
English said: "We took the game to them, which they did not expect.
"In the first half, we had four very good chances and we should have taken at least one.
"They lifted in the second half but we still created chances."
Chipstead sit comfortably in mid-table, still with realistic play-off ambitions.
Sitting seven points out of the top five, English insisted Saturday's display proved they could mix it with the big boys.
He added: "I was pleased that the players were so disappointed not to have won.
"For the majority of the match we were certainly on an even par with them."
Chipstead travel to promotion contenders Sittingbourne on Saturday, looking to avenge a 1-0 defeat in September.
