Emergency repairs for a water leak have caused “traffic chaos” on a South Croydon road.
It comes just two months after the road was closed for a fortnight for Thames Water to fix pipes.
Croydon Council announced that Coombe Road has closed with diversions in place on Monday.
The authority tweeted: “Due to an emergency repair on a water leak Thames Water has closed Coombe Road between its junctions with Chatsworth Road and Water Tower Hill.
"Local diversions are in place. Please avoid the area if possible.”
One local responded that the repairs caused “traffic chaos everywhere in South Croydon” on Wednesday morning.
And volunteer group Friends of Park Hill Park tweeted that drivers were mounting the pavements to get round the closure in Coombe Road.
It is the second time South Croydon roads have faced disruption in recent months due to a burst pipe.
Part of Coombe Road was closed for more than 10 days while Thames Water worked to locate the problem.
In April, workers dug a hole in the road as part of the repairs.
At the time, a spokesperson for Thames Water said while fixing the problem, workers found other leaks in the same area and have had to make the hole bigger than it first was.
They said: “We began digging up the road on Sunday when the pipe first burst and since then have found other leaks along the same stretch that we’re also fixing, meaning we’ve had to make the hole in the road bigger than it initially was.”
The latest disruption comes at a time there could be more cars on the road as rail workers strike over pay and conditions.
There are just a handful of trains running through stations in Croydon and people have been advised to find alternative ways to get around.
