A man who was spotted by a passer by dumping a fridge in Neville Walk, Carshalton, has found himself £215 out of pocket.
David Harris, 25, of Rosebery Gardens, Sutton, pleaded guilty to unlawfully depositing the waste on September 28 when he appeared before Sutton magistrates on January 17.
Harris was caught out after the passerby recorded his vehicle number and contacted the council.
He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 costs and £15 to Victim Support.
Colin Hall, deputy leader of Sutton Council, said: "We are very grateful to this passer-by for acting in the best interests of the community after witnessing this illegal act.
"Sutton Council will, whenever possible, prosecute anyone caught fly tipping."
Flytipping carries a maximum fine of £50,000 or up to five years imprisonment. To report offences call Sutton Council on 020 8770 5070.
