Does David Wilshire live in the same Spelthorne as the rest of us?
I don't think he can spend much time in his constituency, otherwise he would have more understanding on aircraft noise and pollution and he would also see that our infrastructure is already at breaking point.
While he is right to want to preserve existing jobs, surely he must concede that expansion at Heathrow will mean more jobs which will play havoc with our infrastructure.
If he has any doubt he only needs to look at the effect of European immigration in Slough and on its infrastructure. Does he seriously think that the same won't happen to Staines?
Does he know that we are on a noise preferential route? Preferential to whom? Certainly not your constituents, Mr Wilshire, who live under the flight path.
Does he not know the M25 is gridlocked morning and night most days of the week, as is Staines town centre? Just wait until T5 opens in March and we will see even more chaos on our roads.
How many large businesses have left Staines for better facilities elsewhere because of congestion and unacceptable delays they cause?
How many people does he know who are totally satisfied with Heathrow services as they exist?
Improvements are needed before expansion.
How many delays and cancellations occur because of bad weather when the aircraft have to be spread out more and cancelled in our crowded skies?
Our business rate is taken by the Government to support less affluent parts of the country, so isn't he being somewhat selfish in supporting doubtful overall value expansion of Heathrow when other parts of the country would benefit from extra jobs created by new fully international airports?
What sort of people want more and more flights passing over the greater London area, and are they not grateful that fate has so far been kind to us in that both the Papa India crash in Staines and BA 777 crash at Hatton Cross just missed causing a major disaster, in built-up areas, by only a few seconds?
Please think again Mr Wilshire.
TERRY LYDEN, The Ryde, Laleham
