I am writing with regard to your article in the Staines Guardian (January 31) on the proposal to close the sub-post office on the corner of Woodthorpe Road and Chesterfield Road, Ashford.

As you say, our main post office (formerly part of the Co-op shop) in Church Road, Ashford, was closed nearly a year ago, so large numbers of residents now rely solely on the services provided by the sub-post office in Woodthorpe Road.

I do recognise that the use of post-offices is in decline, for various reasons, and I normally use one myself only for sending parcels or large packages.

But hundreds of elderly people in this borough, and boroughs throughout this land, rely on post offices for a range of services.

Central Ashford needs a post office and I strongly urge the Royal Mail to reopen the one that was in Church Road or to keep open the sub-post office in Woodthorpe Road.
