A joyrider who killed a Streatham dad-of-four who tried to stop him speeding away with his car was convicted of manslaughter today.
Ken Hong climbed on to the bonnet of his Honda Civic in an attempt to stop the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, from driving away with it last June.
The teen, who denied murdering Mr Hong, came across the 38-year-old's car with the keys in the ignition outside his house in Abercairn Road.
Mr Hong tried to stop the boy, now 17, from stealing the car by climbing on to the bonnet.
The Old Bailey heard how Mr Hong was tossed into the air like a 'ragdoll' and hit the floor causing him head injuries.
Prosecutor Mark Dennis said the teen, who now lives in Mitcham, was an opportunistic thief who ignored Mr Hong's desperate screams.
"The would-be car thief obviously showed no intention of breaking off his attempt to steal the car, so Mr Hong flung himself spread-eagled across the bonnet of the vehicle.
"Undeterred the young driver accelerated forward in a determined effort to drive off.
"Mr Hong was unable to gain a firm hold nor was he able to get off the car safely and out of danger, and he was simply thrown from the bonnet as the driver accelerated at speed round a left hand corner into a side road and away," said Mr Dennis.
Mr Hong, whose wife was then expecting their fourth child, died three days later in hospital.
The council worker's car was found locked up and abandoned in Mitcham the day before his death.
Police tracked the killer after finding traces of his DNA on the steering wheel.
Judge Ann Goddard adjourned sentencing until February 28.
The boy was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.
