Croydon Council have approved plans to replace Purley fire station with a new, modern building.
At a meeting of the planning committee at the town hall last night , the members voted unanimously to allow outline permission for the new station on the Brighton Road site.
It will consist of an appliance bay of two vehicles, a three storey drill tower and ancillary accommodation.
Chairman of the committee, councillor David Osland, said: "I'm delighted that they are staying there because we were worried about pulling police stations and fire stations from the outer areas and the fact that are staying there is commendable."
