1885 - John Lee is scheduled to be hanged at Exeter Prison. After three attempts, when each time the trapdoor fails to open, he is released and lives until 1933.
1987 - American Pop Artist Andy Warhol dies.
1999 - Billie Piper confesses that she would not have bought her first single, "Because We Want To".
2000 - The Skoda Fabia is named Car of the Year.
2003 - Norah Jones sweeps the boards at The Grammys, picking up eight awards, including Album of the Year and Single of the year.
