Mark Dixie stormed off during a conversation about who killed Sally Anne a court heard today.
The 37-year-old chef is accused of murdering the model on September 25, 2005.
He denies killing Sally Anne but admits having sex with her dead body.
The Old Bailey heard today Mark Dixie was giving evidence at Croydon Crown Court the day after the model's death.
He had been called as a witness for the prosecution in a GBH case relating to an incident at the Jolly Farmers pub, Purley.
Melanie Worrell, whose brother James, was cleared of the GBH charge, told the Old Bailey she started talking about Sally Anne's killing.
She said: "As I was reading the story I said 'I hope the bastard that killed her dies of cancer'
"He Dixie kind of stropped off. He left the room."
But Dixie's defence barrister, Anthony Glass, claimed the chef left because he was a prosecution witness and felt he should not talk to Miss Worrell.
