A Battersea group is hosting a tea party to raise money for farmers in the developing world.

SHARE community, which helps people with disabilities and health problems and has its training centre in Clapham Junction, said the tea and coffee break will "raise money for people in other countries who don't get the breaks they deserve".

The event is part of a nation campaign by Actio Aid, which said while a packet of 80 tea bags costs about £1.70 in the UK an Indian farmer only earns 15p for them.

Annie McDowall, chief executive of SHARE Community, said: "SHARE's students have been learning about Fair Trade - and how unfair most trade is - and want to do their bit to make the world a better, fairer place. That's why we're inviting our friends and neighbours to have a cup of coffee with us on February 29.

"We'll be baking cakes too, and everyone will receive a warm welcome. We hope that as well as contributing to Action Aid's brilliant work, people will find out more about SHARE and how we change local people's lives."

SHARE Community will be boiling the kettle from 10am to 4pm on Friday, February 29.
