Eagles skipper Mark Hudson may sign a new contract with the club by next Saturday, according to boss Neil Warnock.
Having sealed the signature of Danny Butterfield at the weekend, Palace have now turned their attentions to getting the big 25-year-old defender to sign an extension to his current deal which runs out this summer.
Having been given the captain's armband by Warnock, Hudson has flourished and been in superb form, and Warnock was hopeful something could be sorted out soon.
He said: "We have been speaking to him but wanted to get one of the players out of the way first rather than work on two and not get anything done.
"We've only just started talks really, we made him an offer and they have come back to us. Like Butterfield it was two or three conversations so we'll now concentrate on Hudson over the next few days.
"Hopefully by next Saturday we could have something."
