Having read various information and leaflets that have been published regarding the expansion of Tesco in Purley, it seems to me that Purley may as well change its name to "Tesco" as looking at the planned expansion it seems it will dominate the town and become all it is known for.

I can't be the only one to think the size of the current Tesco store is more than big enough and provides the local area with ample choice of products.

There is also an array of other supermarkets in the area to choose from, plus Purley Way on our doorstep.

Why the need to make it even bigger while causing local residents months of upheaval and delays with roadworks?

The Brighton and Godstone roads are busy enough at peak times as it is. I dread to think of the delays it would cause whilst the roadworks it would entail are carried out.

Also I feel for the local independent shops of Purley. I think more should be done for them rather than focusing on encouraging big corporate multi-million pound companies to make even more money.

I moved from Bexleyheath in Kent to Purley as I liked the fact it was a suburban town with fantastic transport links and I worry that this proposal will ruin the area.

Like the swimming pool that is destined to be closed down, I have a feeling the local council will do little to petition it and local residents views won't count.
