It's a great shame to hear that Croydon's Conservative Council are withdrawing the mobile library service, citing a fall in usage as the excuse.

If the usage had fallen, the first step should have been to look at the books, DVDs and CDs they were offering.

Then consult the users, listen to their views and perhaps try expanding the number of stops the service made.

Let's face it, once the service is lost it won't be brought back.

This is yet another example of our cultural services being cut and, if the Conservatives are being genuine, why are they not reinvesting every penny of this cut back into library services?
