Neil Warnock has admitted he probably made the wrong choice by playing Paul Ifill from the start against Charlton on Friday.
The winger has suffered a series of injuries this season that have restricted him to just two starts, the last of which was in November against Colchester.
However, the manager decided to risk him against the Addicks with the hope the derby atmosphere would get him through.
He said: "It was probably too soon for him, it was my fault. I just felt the atmosphere would probably get him through. I didn't really want to put young Sean Scannell through that immediately. On reflection it wasn't fair on Paul."
Ifill was taken off at half time at the Valley and replaced by Scannell but Warnock says he suffered no reaction and should be involved against Ipswich tonight.
The manager is also hoping that Clint Hill will be fit enough to be included after missing the Charlton game with an ankle injury.
He said: "He's a lot fitter than he was on Friday. He had an injection in his ankle so we've got to make a decision whether it's worth risking him tonight or we know for definite he's going to be 100 per cent fit for Bristol City."
If Hill doesn't make it, Lee Hills is expected to deputise but Warnock doesn't think there will be any other changes.
He said: "I don't envisage any changes in personnel but we have talked a lot about the game on Friday. I've watched it two or three times and we've taken certain things out of the game.
"We've had the lads in and looked at 10 or 15 things we could improve on that we have to improve on against Ipswich because if we don't Ipswich have got the kind of players that will punish us like Charlton."
