A mum and baby had a lucky escape after being hit by a car that mounted the footpath in Surbiton this afternoon.
The woman was pushing her baby along Victoria Road outside Sainsbury's when two cars collided about 4.30pm.
One of the cars, a Mini Cooper carrying Wallaker estate agent markings, then mounted the kerb, hit the woman and sent her flying into the air.
The mum, named locally as Helen and believed to live in nearby Lovelace Road, suffered a sore elbow and knee.
The baby, believed to be eight to 10-months-old, escaped unhurt.
Kingston PC Kev Deviell said the pair had a lucky escape.
"The car came from behind her so she couldn't really tell what happened," PC Deviell said.
"She was more concerned that baby was crying because it wanted its feed.
"Everything worked out fine but it had the potential to go terribly wrong.
"It could have been a lot worse with all the traffic around.
The two cars are believed to have collided while one was doing a three-point turn in the road.
The mum and baby were checked at the scene by ambulance officers but made their own way home.
The driver of the Mini, a man in his late 20s or early 30s who did not wish to be named, said "I'm in a lot of shock but I'll be calling Helen later to check she's all right."
The Mini suffered a puncture and was towed away an hour later.
The incident caused minor delays in Victoria Road.
