Businesses in Wandsworth could earn £600 a year by allowing the public to use their toilets.
Wandsworth Council is looking for 100 shops, bars and cafes willing to open up their customer toilets to the wider public.
All "community toilets" will be clearly advertised and inspected annually by the council.
The toilets will help replace nine underused automatic toilets the council plans to close.
The 100 privately-owned toilets will add to 18 council sites and 12 automatic toilets in the borough.
Executive member for environmental and leisure Malcolm Grimston said: "We think the opportunity will be attractive to many retailers who already provide toilets for their customers.
"A similar scheme in Richmond succeeded in signing up around 60 premises. Many of the shops taking part said it brought more custom into their stores.
"This is a modern and cost-effective way of providing essential local facilities which we are sure will be attractive and well-used."
Providing public conveniences on a combination of council and privately-owned sites is expected to save the council about £120,000 a year.
