Four armed robbers were forced to run from a heist in Balham this morning after their getaway car failed to start.

The men entered the post office and newsagents in Cavendish Road about 6am today.

They threatened two staff members with knives before leaving with a small amount of money and other stolen items.

But when they got to their blue Fiat Punto getaway car, it failed to start, forcing the four to run off.

Barnes Flying Squad detectives said two ran towards Hydethorpe Road while the other pair headed in the direction of Haverhill Road.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses, who saw the men running away or who saw the getaway car before it was abandoned.

The suspects are described as four black men, aged approximately 20 to 25 years and wearing dark clothing.
