A Wimbledon couple who met on a packed commuter train have bought the seats where they originally sat to mark the moment that changed their lives.
Jonathan Roberts, 57, and wife Jacqueline, 54, were standing on a South West Trains service to London Waterloo when a guard moved them into a first class carriage because of overcrowding.
They sat next to each other on seat numbers five and six and began a romance which ended in marriage.
Jacqueline, who works as a physiotherapist, heard that the train was being refurbished so she called depot manager Lisa Hindley to see if she could buy the seats.
"Lisa told me she was a romantic at heart so after I told her why I wanted the seats she arranged for us to buy them. They will go next to a window in our front room to remind us of the day we first met."
The couple wore their wedding outfits as they were presented the seats at a special ceremony next to the refurbished train at Waterloo station.
South West Trains refused to take any payment for the seats so the couple have donated £1,000 to a railway charity.
Mr Roberts, a political lobbyist, said: "When we told our friends what we were doing, one of them said that English eccentricity was not dead."
